This past week Carron Philips, a writer for Deadspin, lamented that White fans who watched Black players competing in the NBA playoffs was “white supremacy” on their part. Phillips further commented that a day after a White racist kills 10 Black persons in that horrific attack in Buffalo, white supremacy is further exposed when White spectators are entertained by those Black athletes. The Blacks had to play, according to the writer at the left-wing sports site, while the Whites’ participation was optional.
Personally, I do not care for the
NBA and its politicization of professional basketball. Never watch the games
and do not care who wins or loses. It does not make much sense to me that you
can make a kid a millionaire after one year of college (or no college at all)
and that act alone make that person an expert on national issues and
international relations.
NBA players and coaches are quick
to point out the obvious flaws in America (and there are many) but are silent
on the flaws in China, their rapidly growing market. Almost seems like the NBA
is a wholly owned subordinary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). And before
claims I am spreading disinformation about the CCP, ask the NBA owners about
their combined ten-billion-dollar investments in China as reported by ESPN.
But I digress. Sports or not,
people have jobs. And teammates depend upon one another so that everyone does
their job on the court to win. And professionals respond to pain differently,
including Black athletes. Perhaps, for various reasons, they wanted to play.
Did Phillips bother to ask them or were they expected to follow the party line
and refuse to compete?
Apparently, folks like Phillips are
working overtime expending much time, energy, creativity, and imagination to
expose white racism and supremacy. It is a giant conspiracy theory looming
everywhere in our society, so they say. Now, a White person cannot watch a Black
person excel in sports without being charged with racism. As I stated before, I
do not watch the NBA. This time of year I prefer lacrosse. But wait, isn’t that
a game mostly for rich white kids? Racism! And also cultural appropriation
since lacrosse was invented by Native Americans!
This nonsense almost makes one want
to echo our current President (bless his heart!), “Come on, Man!”
